Apr 1, 2016

MOBILE, AL – Don’t miss the Alabama premiere of the PBS documentary Dispatches from the Gulf, with four showings at GulfQuest National Maritime Museum on Saturday, April 9.

GulfQuest is one of a group of Gulf Coast museums that are hosting these premiere events with PBS. Other sites include the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville, Florida.

The newest documentary in PBS' Journey to Planet Earth environmental series, Dispatches from the Gulf is a 55-minute film that investigates how scientists are responding to the challenges of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the recovery of the Gulf's ecosystems and communities. The documentary captures innovative research techniques, including oceanographers using ROVs and manned submersibles to study the effects of the oil on the ocean floor and chemists and engineers designing new laboratory techniques to understand the impact of the spill on fish species and how chemical dispersants interact with oil. The documentary also examines the oil spill's impact on local communities, from members of the tourism industry to families who rely on seafood for their livelihood.

The GulfQuest screenings, in the GulfQuest Theater, will be shown on Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m., 2:15 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Screenings are included with paid admission to GulfQuest.
