MOBILE, AL – Memorial Day is more than an excuse to grill out and enjoy a three-day weekend - it’s a time to remember the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice for America’s safety and freedom. In observance of the national holiday, GulfQuest will hold special holiday hours on Monday, May 30 so visitors can learn about the heroic roles Mobile-based U.S. service men and women played during WWII.
“Mondays are typically GulfQuest’s only non-operating day but we wanted to remain open so visitors would have the chance to learn about the historical impact ths Port City had during times of war,” Diana Brewer, Marketing and Public Relations Director at GulfQuest said. “We think it’s important for visitors to know about Mobile's history, and in particular, on this important day we would encourage our visitors to see the "Port of Victory” film in the Discovery Hull Theater on Deck 3.”
“Port of Victory” is a film on the history of the Port of Mobile during World War II that focuses on shipbuilding and shipping industries that helped the nation sustain the war. With sound, lighting and fog effects, the film features the role of the Waterman Steamship and Alcoa in shipping bauxite for airplane production despite persistent attacks from German U-boats.
GulfQuest will open at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day and will close at 5 p.m.
