• Ensure a positive experience for GulfQuest visitors by serving as an ambassador during all work-related activities for the museum, providing information, services and support whenever possible.
• Interact effectively with other staff members in a manner that establishes and supports a collaborative work environment marked by a high level of team satisfaction, productivity and success.
Create, design and produce all print and electronic graphic designs and materials including sales and promotional items such as interior and exterior signage, banners, brochures, advertising, visitor guides, social media, invitations, programs, postcards, flyers, banners, newsletters, posters and affinity products.
Support the graphic design needs of the administration and other museum departments (development, memberships, exhibits, education, events, cafe, store, etc.) by planning, prioritizing and coordinating multiple budgets, projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Conceptualize and produce imagery and designs using a variety of techniques (including photography, computer illustration and traditional media) in support of the museum's brand identity.
Support the distribution of direct mail materials, including designing pieces to meet postal requirements and managing the production and distribution processes internally and externally.
Manage printers and other vendors to ensure all materials are produced on time and within budget. Handle delivery of printed materials and distribution to departments and external audiences.
Maintain close communication with Marketing & PR Director to plan workflow and keep projects on schedule. Be aware of museum initiatives in order to anticipate design needs.
Maintain institutional graphic and image files and archives of logos, photos, artwork and designs.
Other duties and project management activities as assigned by Marketing & PR Director.
• BA in graphic design or related field
• 3+ years work experience as a graphic designer
• Proven proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator)
• Creative and artistic vision, with a capacity to develop designs for a variety of media and audiences
• Demonstrated skill with typography, layout and color, as evidenced through a portfolio of work
• Experience with offset printing and pre-press production (both two-color and four-color processes)
• Outstanding proofing skills, ability to maintain a high attention to detail throughout the creative process
• Experience with web platforms and email marketing and performance-measurement tools preferred
• Professional commitment to remain current with best practices and relevant trends in graphic design
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening skills
• Superior organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced work environment
• Self-motivated, proactive approach to problem-solving
• Occasional evening/weekend hours required
The position requires a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The job requires a considerable amount of time standing or sitting (often for several hours straight) and communicating in person, through email and by phone. The work requires the ability to multi-task with a considerable degree of accuracy and exactness and the ability to address multiple projects simultaneously (and handle the accompanying stress). Regular/predictable attendance is critical. Professionalism is required. At times, lifting 25 pounds unassisted (and 50 pounds assisted) will be necessary.
