GulfQuest looking for hundreds of museum volunteers
Mobile, AL – When GulfQuest opens it doors later this year, the interactive maritime museum will be staffed with hundreds of volunteers, six days a week. From greeting visitors, to assisting educators with school groups, to helping visitors navigate any one of the 90 exhibits, volunteers will play an important role.
Traci Swoboda, GulfQuest’s Director of Volunteer Services, is actively recruiting volunteers and said she hopes to have her roster of volunteers in place this summer.
“This is such an exciting opportunity,” Swoboda said. “We are looking for dynamic and friendly people who want to be a part of the GulfQuest team, and who want to be part of making history on the Gulf Coast.”
GulfQuest is one of only two interactive maritime museums in the United States, and the only museum dedicated to the rich maritime traditions of the Gulf of Mexico.
Swoboda said volunteers would work throughout the museum, including assisting with the hands-on exhibits and working in Treasures, the museum gift store.
“From the minute visitors step in to the museum, they will be greeted by a volunteer who will direct them to the right place,” Swoboda said. “Because they will be assisting with the exhibits, volunteers will go through an extensive training program. They will essentially be the ambassadors for our visitors, so we definitely plan to give them the training they need to feel comfortable and confident. I also believe our volunteers will have a lot of fun.”
