Celebrations and Shipwrecks!

Hablas espanol? Parlez-vous Francais? Or how about a British Tea time? Cadets in our Maritime Academies will join the State of Alabama in celebrating the kick-off of its three year Bicentennial Celebration by learning about the native and colonial cultures on the Gulf Coast. Cadets will celebrate with language lessons and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) inspired exercises as they learn about the history and culture of the people who came before us. Cadets will explore and experiment with the methods used by archaeologists below the surface of the sea as they recover artifacts from shipwrecks…. And these are just a few of the exciting activities cadets will experience this summer! Activities will be grade-level appropriate.

DELIVER A BROADSIDE

A broadside involved every gun along one side of a warship firing simultaneously. It was the most powerful blow of all. When we "deliver a broadside," we expect it to have a sudden, dramatic effect on the intended recipient.
